Description

The CAYC is an easy-to-administer screening instrument for early identification of children with developmental delays. This newly revised and updated version of the DASI-II (Developmental Activities Screening Inventory-II) was normed on a nationally stratified sample of 743 children. The CAYC can be used to identify children in need of early intervention and for progress monitoring.

The CAYC can be used for early identification of developmental delay in order to facilitate early intervention, determination of strengths and weaknesses, and documentation of progress for making conclusions on whether to continue, modify, or terminate the intervention program.

The tests 107 play-based items are arranged in order of increasing difficulty and cover developmental and metacognitive tasks:

Interactive communication and play

Memory

Reasoning

Perceptual development

Processing

Classification and organizational skills

Concept development

Practical knowledge

Components of early learning skills

The child being tested must have sufficient hearing, vision, and movement skills in order to understand and respond to test items.

Administration and Scoring

The CAYC takes 15-30 minutes to administer. Results are expressed as a developmental age, as well as standard scores, percentile ranks, and age equivalents.
