Description
The MIRBI-2 can be used as a brief, standardized screening instrument for neurocognitive deficits associated with right-hemisphere brain injury and its severity level in adults.
The test uses 27 items that represent four general functional domains. Each domain is, in turn, broken down into subdomains, which correspond to specific test items. The four general domains and their subdomains are:

With this edition, the underlying rationale for the test has been updated to reflect current trends in neuropsychology. The test booklet was revised to include more user-friendly areas for recording examinee information, along with revised criteria for scoring responses. In addition, a caliper is now part of the test kit.
The MIRBI-2 now also includes additional data on normal, right-, and left-brain-injured individuals, and the number of cases used for interrater reliability studies was increased. New validity analyses were conducted, including a principal-components factor analysis to test the items construct validity, and item analysis. Concurrent validity was very good and included the study of left-brain-injured participants and control participants without brain injury. Additionally, test reviews and professionals comments from the field have been incorporated.
The MIRBI-2 was normed on 128 right-brain-injured adults between ages 20 and 90. Additional data was collected on 45 left-brain-injured adults, and on 78 English-speaking adults with no identified disabilities. Reliability was estimated by coefficient alpha (.84). All item discrimination coefficients exceeded acceptable levels, with a median of .57. Interrater reliability was .99.
Administration and Scoring
Administration of the MIRBI-2 takes 20-30 minutes. A severity level of the functional impact of right-brain injury is determined by adding the scores achieved on the 27 items and converting this raw score to a standard score, percentile, or stanine.
