Description The BRIEF-P is a standardized rating scale intended to evaluate executive function in preschoolers. Various aspects of executive functioning are assessed with scales for Inhibit, Shift, Emotional Control, Working Memory, and Plan/Organize. The BRIEF-P may be used with preschoolers who have medical, acquired neurological, and developmental conditions such as prematurity, emerging learning disabilities, attention disorders, language disorders, traumatic brain injury, lead exposure, and pervasive developmental disorders and autism.
Administration and Scoring A single form is used by parents, teachers, and day-care providers to rate a childs executive functions in everyday environments. The questionnaire takes 10-15 minutes to fill out and 15-20 minutes to score. Three broad indexes (Inhibitory Self-Control, Flexibility, and Emergent Metacognition), one composite score, and two validity scales (Inconsistency and Negativity) are obtained.
