Description The TOSCRF-2 is a highly reliable and valid measure of general reading ability that can be given in a brief period of time. It measures contextual silent reading abilities (word identification, word meaning, word building, sentence structure, comprehension, and fluency) and can be used by classroom and special education teachers, reading specialists, school psychologists, speech pathologists, and other professionals.
This new edition expands the tests age range through and beyond college age; presents additional evidence for validity; addresses practice effects; and has updated instructions, including use with deaf and hearing-impaired students.
The TOSCRF-2 was co-normed with the Test of Silent Word Reading Fluency2 (TOSWRF-2) and the Test of Written Spelling5 (TWS-5). The TOSCRF-2 was normed using a national representative sample of 2,375 individuals.
Administration and Scoring The TOSCRF-2 presents rows of contextually related words, all uppercase without spaces or punctuation (e.g., AYELLOWBIRDWITHBLUEWINGS). Students must draw lines between as many words as possible in 3 minutes (e.g., A/YELLOW/BIRD/WITH/BLUE/WINGS). To do well, the student must grasp the meaning of the text.
A single form can be administered in 3 minutes and two forms can be administered in 6 minutes. Results yield raw scores, standard scores, percentiles, and age and grade equivalents.
