Description
The GORT-5 provides an efficient and objective measure of growth in oral reading and aids in diagnosis of oral reading difficulties. Newly renormed, the GORT-5 now has an expanded age range, simplified basal and ceiling rules, additional items, revised comprehension questions, and new reliability and validity data.
Use the GORT-5 to: - identify students with reading difficulties (those who may need more intensive or explicit instruction in reading ability and/or comprehension).
- diagnose reading disabilities when used as part of a battery of tests.
- determining strengths and weaknesses. (e.g., reading rate vs. comprehension).
- evaluate students progress in reading. Two equivalent forms enable examiners to conduct pre-and post-intervention testing.
- conduct research. The GORT-5 is a standardized, norm-referenced test, making it suitable for use in reading research.
Each of the two parallel forms contains 16 developmentally sequenced passages, followed by comprehension questions. The GORT-5 provides scores for Rate, Accuracy, Fluency (Rate and Accuracy combined), Comprehension, and an Oral Reading Index (a composite of Fluency and Comprehension). An optional error analysis system assists reading specialists when planning interventions.
Administration and Scoring
Administration and scoring take 20-30 minutes. Rate, Accuracy, Fluency, and Comprehension are reported as scaled scores, grade and age equivalents, and percentile rank. The Oral Reading Index is given as a standard score and percentile rank.
