Description
The TOGRA assesses verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning and problem-solving skills, through tasks that are both inductive and deductive. It is appropriate for use when a timed measure of reasoning ability and problem solving under pressure is needed, including evaluating students reasoning skills, executives ability, and in assessing candidates for public safety positions. There are two equivalent forms (Blue and Green), allowing the TOGRA to be used for later retesting and progress monitoring.
The TOGRA was normed on a nationally representative sample of 3,013 individuals. Results from all formats were found to fall into common score distributions within the constraints of sampling error, indicating that they were equivalent. Statistical analyses confirmed that any possible racial, gender, and religious bias was minimal.
An investigation of TOGRA scores relationship to examinees occupational data revealed median overall General Reasoning Index scores increasing as examinees industries moved from physically oriented occupations to business- and science-oriented ones.
Administration and Scoring
Administration of the TOGRA takes about 16 minutes, and scoring 23 minutes. Raw scores yield a General Reasoning Index, a highly reliable score that reflects overall reasoning and problem-solving skill. Other derived scores, including z-scores, normal-curve equivalents, stanines, percentiles,and, for the younger ages, age equivalents, are provided.
