Description
The S-FRIT is a reliable tool which gives educational and psychological professionals a balanced measure of verbal, abstraction, quantitative, and memory abilities. It contains 252 items arranged according to level of difficulty and is intended to supplement the use of more extensive cognitive assessment batteries when charting a student's cognitive progress.
Because the Performance/Nonverbal Index (PI) uses pictures and abstract designs rather than words, the test can be used to screen verbal from nonverbal abilities in children with limited language skills.
Administration and Scoring
Basals and ceilings are established for each child. The unique scoring system utilizes running totals of raw scores for each test domain: Verbal, Abstraction, Quantitative, and Memory. Raw scores are converted to standardized scores to obtain a measure of overall ability, and a composite score from abstraction and quantitative tests. Instructions and norms are provided for a quick (15 minute) assessment of overall cognitive abilities (but not individual ability domains).
