Description
The RIPA-2 can be used to quantify cognitive-linguistic deficits, determine severity levels for skills, and develop rehabilitation goals. The RIPA-2 profiles 10 key areas in communicative and cognitive functioning: Immediate Memory, Recent Memory, Temporal Orientation (Recent Memory), Temporal Orientation (Remote Memory), Spatial Orientation, Orientation to Environment, Recall of General Information, Problem Solving and Abstract Reasoning, Organization, and Auditory Processing and Retention.
The study sample included 126 individuals with traumatic brain injury and was representative of United States TBI demographics. The mean internal consistency reliability coefficient for subtests was .85, indicating minimal test error. Criterion-related validity showed considerable correlation between the RIPA-2 and selected subtests of the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities. The RIPA-2 was shown to distinguish between groups with cognitive deficits and those with normal cognitive skills. Evidence is also provided that RIPA-2 items are not biased for age or gender.
Administration and Scoring
Test administration takes about 60 minutes. Raw scores can be converted to standard scores and percentiles.
